Forgive me if someone's posted this before. I did 2 searches and nothing showed up...

Turns out Cablemas doesn't have service in my new neighborhood (Kinda tipped off by the massive amounts of dishes in my neighborhood)

    What's the cheapest alternative??

If you have family in the states or Canada or anywhere really, you may want to look into a Sling Box on their cable system, and a Sling Catcher on your set here. You can legally and basically receive their service for free, except for the cost of the Sling products and you may need to pay them for adding a box on their end. It sort of depends on your desires and their service. Happy to provide more info by PM, email or in person. I suppose you could even Sling from someone here, if the upload speed of Cablemas is any good. A lot depends on if you want to watch local cable or
US or Canada and how you pull it off. I am blessed with Cablemas and Sling.

We really should talk. I have an idea.

Dish Network (Mexico version) has something for $199/month.. not sure what it includes.. the cheapest I've ever seen Sky advertise is $299.. course you'll want which ever offer the free equipment and they'll both want contracts I'd imagine.....

You might ask one of your neighbors if they'd consider getting an extra box and letting you use it for a split bill.... it might be a little complicated if they only have a one-box dish, but I think they can "upgrade" to more boxes for a fee then you can run a wire to your house and hook up the other box to your TV.. assuming they are next door on one side or the other... just a thought.

Depending how much TV you really need, you might find the internet to provide a reasonable amount of viewing.. with a US proxy you can watch Hulu and many broadcast channels that stream their content...

Ok here's what we've found out...

Sky has a bunch of great packages, and I think we're gonna do one for about $260 pesos a month, plus $600 installation (I think they give us back $50 a month or something to cover this cost over time... not 100% clear on that). We can add packages of channels, or take them away, each month. I thought that was pretty cool. (Example: You can get like 5 sports channels for an extra $40 pesos a month or whatever, or 10 kids channels, etc etc)

Dish costs around $150 for a very very basic package. We have friends who've had a great first month with Dish, then things would go downhill.

As for internet, we checked at Telmex. You have to get internet and a phone line, which we're not interested in. Costs $389 pesos. Sorry, too much for me.

We've decided to get Sky for now and then just talk to the neighbors about internet :)
