Hello after a bit of advice really, late Aug early September my girl friend will need to book flights home back to London. Many of the sites we have looked on don't really have much to offer, we are after a one way ticket as we will be leaving Mexico for a while due to work. Now flying out here she used Thomson who worked out the cheapest, even then she had to buy a return as they wouldn't do a one way flight. Is there a Mexican budget airline that flys to London? Has anyone ever had to fly home before or even better has anyone ever brought a one way ticket home?. I'm very lucky as my company pays for my own flightsl but this dosn't help the other half much Any advice would be great.
Thomas cook will sell you a one way charter home if you arrived into cancun on a charter. Alternatively the cheapest flights we have found to get home recently is Air Europa via Madrid.Jetair via brussels also good value. Starting in Novemnber british Airways will have direct flights twice a week Cancun London ! Good luck Tracey
Are you sure that your girlfriend doesn't have a credit on her account for a return.. since she bought a round trip?... they don't always just disappear when you miss the flight... may at least be good for a discount.... I would call if I were you....
Thanks for all the posts but this is very interesting, when she booked her round trip here she just didn't bother getting the flight home, we didn't let them know or anything. Do you still think its worth ringing?
Won't cost you anything to ask.. I seem to recall reading something about US carriers being required to offer some sort of credit for missed flights, although I don't know the details or if it applies to UK charters too, but if nothing else you may be able to muscle a discount by playing the "poor girl couldn't catch her return flight and needs to go home now" bit.... you never know you may have a full credit sitting on your account waiting to expire if unused.
We used to do this for several years. Also when my Mum was here last year she deliberately missed her flight back and went back 6 weeks later. But they wont give you a new ticket unless: a) you still have the unused ticket b) the original date of return is no longer than 6 months ago, it used to be a year (which is why it no longer works for us) It costs around £400 to change the date, you also cant book too far ahead, about 10 days is best. This is because they need to know how many people came out on the incoming flight in order to know if there's space going back. Phone Thomson locally in Cancun and ask. Please let us know the outcome. Two years ago we flew with Iberian Air to Madrid, they also fly to Paris. The problem is the flight gets in too late for there to be an ongoing flight to the UK the same day, meaning an overnight stop and all the hassle that entails. Last year we flew British Airways to Gatwick. With a layover in Miami of a few hours - it's not cheap though. Our tickets were about $1200 return each. Good to hear the new BA direct flight confirmed, just wonder what the prices will be like though.
You may want to check Continental for your specific dates. They go to GTW but you have to change in Houston, Charlotte (North Carolina) and Newark. The good news is the total of all the stops is right at 4 hrs. I plugged the last Thursday of August and it is $1,245 USD. Leaves here at 7 am or so and arrives GTW at 7 pm or so. If she is flexible, maybe you can check many dates and find one cheaper.
Steve - The BA site list the prices as CUN-LGW non stop: U$855.53 return Economy taxes in and U$2740.00 in Business taxes in. There is no First Class on the service - if you want First they still send you through Miami and it in the U$10K region. Wednesdays and Saturdays
Damn, no first class - what is the world coming to $855 That's a nice price, certainly better than other alternatives and direct too. I foresee a few more trips home for us.
