Back in November I had a religious experience, a message from God really, when in church in Orlando. I was ill at the time and facing an uncertain future. I have become much more spiritual, yet I remain my wild and crazy self. 8 months later I am pretty much back to normal. I decided that I would quote some scripture, as part of my "signature" here on Cancun Care. I have no idea if anyone reads it but I hope so. I do this to honor and to thank God for what he has done for me and because it makes me feel good. Hopefully, folks who read my posts at least take a glance at the red part of my signature. If I knew people really did read them, I would change them weekly on a schedule. I know this board is not for witnessing Christ so this will be my only post on this subject and is an explanation as to why I use scripture in my posts. I only post on Living in Cancun & Riviera Maya and Cancun Info and I posting this only on these two boards. I welcome any replies, either on this thread or by a PM. Thanks for reading this. T.J.
I read them and read it, I personally do not beleave in any god but understand why some people do beleave in a god (of any type)
I am not trying to turn this into a debate but instead explain from teh other side. I have never been able to understand the need of some people to show the "right" way to or enlighten those not following their path. Everyone has a path. Just because mine does not include your God does not mean it is lacking. But thanks for the concern anyway. I understand it comes from a place of caring but also understand it doesn't always come across that way.
Thanks for the replies. And thanks for those that are coming via PM. Kathy, the great thing about this forum, is that it is sort of like TV or radio. If you don't like the program, you don't have to tune in. I mean this in only a respectful way. When my post gets to the red part, you can simply stop reading. LOL. And thanks for all of your posts, which I enjoy reading on a wide range of subjects. No debate intended here. Just sharing, which helps me, and possibly others. Love to all. T.J.
TJ you're quite welcome to have whatever you like in your signature. If believing in God gives you comfort then that's fine by me. Personally, I do not believe in God. Lots of people give the credit to God for overcoming certain issues in life, I believe if God was so powerful those issues shouldnt have arisen in the first place. Religon, whatever its colour, to me is somewhat of an issue that belongs in the dark ages, before science and rational thinking existed. But hey, forum signatures are there for people to express whatever thoughts they want.
I'm a Christian myself. Still, I think Steve brings up a good point. Christians often say things that just don't make much sense!! Some will say anything that makes them feel good. I once heard that if you really want to understand a religion, don't study the people that practice it (they will almost always get it wrong!). Instead, you should study the figure it centers on (Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed, etc) You'll quickly see that most religions are very inspiring and teach great values, despite what their followers later throw into the mix. I read a chapter out of the Bible every day (since 7th grade), and it has helped me so much in understanding the religion I was raised in without the bias of the church itself. (church is great, but I really appreciate being able to form my own conclusions as well!) Jesus' teachings aren't all happy rainbows, puppies and sunshine, as some of your friends seem to think, Steve. It's more about how to love and respect everyone around you, regardless of their beliefs or actions. Lots of Christians miss that, sadly. And sorry to get all preachy!! In Mexico, the topic of religion seems to be strictly prohibited, so I talk about it when I can haha
I totally agree and generally I just skip over your sigline. I'm just responding to your post calling attention to your sigline (which I could also have ignored but you seemed open so I thought I'd give insight from "the other side" as it were).
I've read the Bible cover to cover and always love to see what sticks out for different people. I often find myself thinking, "Gosh, how did I miss that verse?" when someone shares a favorite that I haven't memorized, and favorite scriptures give great insight into personality
