Great report. I always anticipate the reports from first timers. We will be taking our first trip in March and the advice and tips are great. I have been worrying about packing too much or the wrong things. Your advice on less clothes and more swimsuit covers is what i've been thinking but i always over pack for everything. I think i can just overstuff Steves suitcase because from what i understand right now, he can check in extra bags for no charge with his military id.
the tipping has been very confusing on here for me. we are really good tippers for good service. i know that it says tips are included in the all inclusive price, and we would definately want to take care of those that take care of us, but from some of the reports on here it sounds as though tips are expected in advance to get bartenders or housekeeping to even do a "good" job...kinda confusing.
a lot of people mention antibiotics on here...what is that for?
    and well...church across the street...ya think its a sign...hahaha.

thanks for sharing all the valuable tips and advice!

Darc-I take the good with the bad. The mixed service won't stop me from returning (for the 7th. or 8th. time) but my tipping is going to be selective now! Sometimes I think it is because I am not very demanding or loud!
There are just not many places that are childfree that are not couples only-and I've always gone single to TTR. So I'll try a new strategy next trip, when I figure out when to go.
Allergic-one thing I'd say is to take non-slip sandals. Not only is the pool deck slippery, the tile on stairs/hallways can be too. The antibiotics people talk about is in case you get the Revenge. I've never had it and have travelled to Mexico at least 30 times.

pack non-slip sandals..check! i have seen a few people talking about slipping while sober! so i figured it must be pretty slippery.
oh..thanks with the antibiotics..was quite confused! lol

hope all of you enjoy the 4th...the sky is falling here in louisiana, but if i have to find a bright side i guess its that i haven't had to water the flowers or add water to the pool in two weeks! im having sunshine withdrawals!!

Definitely wear the sandles by the pool or anywhere in the main public areas. Not only does the humidity keep things wet (the floors you perv's!) but the combination of the sun lotions/oils and water make for a very dangerous combination. Both Rebecca and I fell on our first full day there. She bruised her knee by the sexy pool and I went down two stairs by the beach on my ankle. It was sandles the rest of the week!

And for tfordy - it was beyond awesome meeting you guys. Wish we would have done so earlier in the week so we could have partied more at night with ya'll. Hopefully we'll be able to find time next year to coordinate our trip and spend the week with the crew partying like rock stars!

You guys are funny with the antibiotic thing... I was actually talking about taking them home to have them on hand if anyone in my family got sick during the year. We got 120 pills of amoxcicillan for $40 and we also picked up some ear drops because every year one of us gets swimmers ear! We didnt have any problems with "the revenge"....so all was good there!

Great TR.. we are very puzzled about the problems you had regarding the tipping. Seems strange to us... but we will be rethinking our tipping also. Great service Great tip. Not Great tip...maybe great service...
Our last trip we were tipping 5 dollars a day for housekeeping but we got nothing fancy and our fridge was not always filled, however we did find a bag with beer and pop under our bed?

Just our two cents on the tipping. Our first day on our first trip we gave the bartender a $5 and he did such a great job that we ended up throwing another $40-50 at him by the end of the week. We did the same thing at the restaurants. The first time at the nice restaurants we gave the waiter a $10 but when we came back the next time and had even BETTER service (he remembered our drinks, was joking with us, even brought out the chef so we could meet her) we upped our tips substantially.

As for the church, thanks to BBG Party and M-n-K we almost got married our first trip to Temptations all due to the proximity of the church. Of course we probably couldn't have gone through with it since neither of us had our birth certificates, but it was a memorable part of our first trip.

What kind of good deals can you get on Rx drugs in Cancun, and what about bringing them home. We both have good medical insurance and only pay a small copay for drugs, but have family with no insurance. Is it worth the time?

The church is Catholic and the mass at 9AM Sunday is in english. Next time check it out and pray that you will be able to keep coming back to Cancun and TTR again and again. Works for us.
