We are first timers planning a trip in January. We are trying to decide if we should pay about 300 dollars more for an ocean view room, or just stick with a standard room? Any suggestions??
Oh my goodness, no, don't pay it...Wait to see the room they assign you or ask for ocean view when you arrive...it might be less than that or if you're lucky you might get a free upgrade (i said might)...I dont think it's worth it as we spend so little time in the room gazing at the ocean....last time we went a few wks ago we had a huge jr suite w/ king bed, round couch, and another couch and an enormous balcony...but no view at all...I preferred the larger room though... I'm sure others will chime in on this!
It really depends, I always love the ocean view rooms, if it is actually ocean view, some are just ocean glimpses... and you really wont be spending to much time in the room, the sexy pool will keep you occupied all day long until almost dark.... either way you can always ask to see the room first upon check in and then ask to see another one....you can upgrade upon arrival if there are rooms available...this year I had a view of the ocean , even though i technically had a garden view room....so if its a money issue, id save it and try to get the best room once there, if money is not the issue, then go ocean view, be careful going to the 3rd floor, long walk if you plan to get drunk at night , ive learned that the hard way a few times LOL
My suggestion is to use the same reasoning that you use when booking a room at any other vaca resort. Waiting to see the difference at check-in may be a good choice as some of the ocean-view rooms don't offer much of a view. There are some of the rooms that are usually for members that do offer exceptional views and you may get one of those for free.
NOT........we were not in our room except to sleep.............and the OV rooms are in a noisier part of the resort.......get something over near the quiet pool. We were in 1214............it was in an excellent location

We paid for it and got a crappy one. We were in 5524 which was directly behind the sand volleyball court. Couldn't see much through the palms and marina....
Last year we paid for the ocean view with a hot tub on the balcony....never used the hot tub at all. By the time we got to the room at night we was so exhausted/drunk we never even wanted to get in it. The ocean view was nice cause we had the last room out by the quite pool and it was a wonderful place to drink coffe in the morning trying to clean out the cobwebs. We did hop our lil balcony for some late night ocean fun when the guards would walk off.
We live by the ocean so seeing it is no big deal. I would save your money. We use our room for sleeping and never even walk out on the balcony. One time they upgraded us for free to a oceanview room at check in. Never hurts to ask and get a freebie
