Six of us are coming to Cancun from Sacramento this weekend. We are staying at the Royal Islander, but plan on partying every night. Any suggestions on good bars (not clubs) to go to? What is the latest that they serve alcohol in Cancun?

    Thanks!

You will have fun at the Royal Islander and can walk over to the Royal Mayan and Royal Carribean which are right next door. I recommend taking the shuttle to the Royal Sands which is about 2 miles away and FUN. It seemed to me that the Royal Sands is where the party is at. The Royal Sands has a NICE sports bar just like you would see in your town, big screen tvs, chicken wings, pool tables etc (very American). We stayed at the Club de International which about 4 miles from the Royal Islander don't waste your time taking the free shuttle there because it wouldn't be fun for a group looking to have fun, lot of older people and families (nice resort but not worth visiting, not unless you just want to see the grounds).

As far as bars not clubs I would recommend Carlos & Charlies, gets wild around 7pm with a band and then everyone leaves there goes to Coco Bongo. We didn't really go bar hoping but there are some cool spots that are not club scenes that we walked by that look fun. The beach in front of the Royal Islander is nice and big but the drop off to get in the ocean is about 10 feet so be careful and don't walk out on the beach at night or you may break your neck, seriously. Let me know if you have any questions about the Royal Resorts, I may be able to help some.

The Royal Isander was the only one we did not walk through so I don't know about their pool scene but it is probably like the Royal Mayan and Royal Carribean which where similar to our pool scene. The Royal Sands pool scene is pretty wild and the pool is huge. I recommend taking the shuttle to the Royal Sands and laying by their pool and beach for one day, just seems more fun for some reason. Your key card to your room will work at ANY of the Royal Resorts so don't worry about taking cash just have your card and you can get towels, rent any water equipment, buy drinks/food (happy hour every day from 3-6). Have fun and enjoy, I can't wait to go back already.
