When we were there at the end of February it took about 45 minutes to an hour to get through everything and to the ride.

I heard they came out with a new immigration form for visitors, about a month ago, and that it was part of the reason for increased waits to get through the immigration line.
Some have reported 3-4 hrs, which sounds unbearable.

Those new forms were implemented right around May 1 and, according to what I've been hearing, things are back to normal, at the airport.

I'll find out, tonight, when my wife flies in.

Addendum: Any delay she experiences here will pale in comparison to the delay she's experiencing in Atlanta, where departures are now delayed a full three hours- and no flights are being allowed to take off, if their destination is Atlanta, according to the FAA.

This is most likely related to a weather delay (there are thunderstorms in the area) but there was an apparently an electrical fire at the airport, today, as well, which resulted in passengers being denied access to the terminals for a period of time when a tunnel through which the train connecting the terminals began to smell of smoke- which may have started a chain reaction of delays, as sometimes happens.

    Dougout,
You were sober enough to put up with 40 minutes in a snaky line? When are you heading back here next time amigo?

arrived on May 15th around 10ish and had to wait for 2 hours. Departing from Cancun yesterday was a breeze in Customs but getting on our Delta flight was not (delayed 2 hours).

    ???
    ncsurf,

I read your post on the other thread about USA Transfers and your more than satisfactory experience.

But now you have confused me. You don't do anything with Customs (or Immigration, unless you lose your FMT) when leaving the country. Might you mean Security?

    Thanks,

maybe I said it incorrectly so let's try again. We arrived on 5/15 around 10am and had to wait in customs or security whichever it is (at the bottom of the escalator). They checked my passport so I assumed it was customs but maybe it was security all I know is it was a HUGE line and took about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. I was worried the USA Transfers guy would be wondering if we even made it but he was there. Leaving Cancun on 5/22 our Delta flight was delayed 2 hours and it was a huge mess for a lot but not us but we still had to wait about 2 hours in line. Getting through security leaving cancun was like 10 mins so maybe I said it backwards on the previous post. My USA Transfers driver said the Saturday before we got there was about a 4 hour wait in customs so we got lucky. It was also graduation weekend for a lot of colleges in USA so that could have played a major role. It sucks when you come off the escalator and see about 200 ppl waiting and you can barely get off the escalator yourself.

2 hours on May 15, and 4 hrs the Saturday before..?
Not too great, to say the least.

thanks BrianH for clearing it up, maybe I was saying it wrong but the easiest way to say it is when you arrive in Cancun you will wait around 2 hours + for the next few months I would assume
