You know, since Mexico is so, so dangerous, let's go to Chicago instead of Cancun. Chicago Lawmakers Want Governor To Send in the National Guard Two state congressmen say the governor should deploy troops to the streets of Chicago, where as many Americans have been murdered this year as have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. Ain't it the truth and, if Mexican media focused on U.S. violence, the way U.S. media focuses on Mexican violence, do you suppose some Mexican people might begin to doubt the wisdom of taking their next holiday in the states? Hard to imagine, but the press can influence peoples' thinking, at times, as we've seen regarding travel to Cancun.
I dont think the US media needs to warn anyone about Chicago or any number of big cities. But as is said You can find trouble anywhere if ya look for it.
You know, I never really looked at your glasses very well until just now. you're on the BEACH!! I always thought you were in the snow (avatar) because teh person taking the picture looked like they were suited up and had ski poles. Wow. You're on the beach. (we return you now to your regularly scheduled program)
Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres. Better-half taking the picture and believe me, she's not wearing ski gear.
Mixz1 - I just meant that the concept of not going to a country because of violence and instead going to a city isn't comparing apples to apples... Does that help? It wasn't meant as criticism of your post. And I know I'm not expressing it as succintly as I probably could if I could get my IQ out of the gutter today. The US media does this all the time, they portray all of Mexico as violent and under siege meanwhile people in the US happily trot off to Orlando for vacation and would never consider going to Detroit on vacation. Know what I mean? Mexico is a big country, yet the media paints it with a brush of only one color. I also see this when I talk to people in the US about living in Mexico. They think that all of Mexico is a 24 hour battle scene, but they readily make distinctions between good and bad areas in the US. They don't feel nervous about visiting Cape Cod even though Philly is full of crime and it's only, what?, 6 hours away (or 4 for you with your fast car). It just comes down to ignorance, the less people know about a place the more readily they imagine something that isn't real. When people think that this area is dangerous for tourists they are wrong. They are also wrong when they think this place is simply paradise.
Okay, RG. I get your point. I should have said something like let's not visit Niagara Falls because of what's going on in Chicago. I was trying to paint the US with the same kind of wide brush the press uses on Mexico, but I missed.
