Me and my Dad are going to Cancun 5/15-5/22. We are staying at Club de International (Royal Resorts) and I'm sure we will have fun at the resorts but we also want to venture out a few days. Here are the two tours I am thinking about booking, let me know your thoughts if you have been on them before or if they are not the ones to do (because looks like there are TONS to choose from).

Discount tour price Sail on Catamaran to Isla Mujeres, Mexico

    Holkan Adventure Tours (ATV Quad)

    XPlor Park - Entertainment Plus

Are the private tours better than the Public tours? Thanks in advance

The Isla Mujeres trip is always fun, there's very little travel involved too. I havent done the other two.

Private tours are better in that you choose your own itinerary and it's just your group, rather than a bus load of people. The price for a private tour depends on the number of people so for just 2 it's going to be expensive. The break even point is normally 6-8 people and after that it's cheaper per person to go private.

Thanks Steve, I figured the private tour was pretty pricey and it would just be two of us not unless we made some friends at the resort and got them to book as well. I'm think we will just do the Isla Mujeres trip and rent a golf cart just to see a different island and seems relaxing. Also we will probably just do the public ATV/zipline tour which should take care of the adventure tour. We arrive on a Saturday so I'm thinking book the adventure tour on Monday, then the Isla Mujeres tour on Tuesday or Wednesday. Thanks

If you're going to Holkan, I would do the Shotover Jet too if it's in the budget. When we went we did the zip lines, ATV's and Shotover Jet and honestly the jet was the highlight for me. The zips there are very good, they have an "automatic" braking system so you don't have to worry about braking yourself with usual apparatus you find at some of the other parks. Heads up, be careful on the ATV's, one of the girls I went with hit a hole, flew off and broke her collarbone pretty badly, not trying to deter you (it could happen on any ATV tour I think), just a "mama note" to be careful.

I took some video on the jet boat, doesn't do it justice but gives you an idea. All of us wanted to go again. :)

wow great video and that does look pretty fun, so you did the shotover and the ATV's? Yeah I totally understand someone could get hurt on the ATV so I would try my best to be cautious. Thanks

We did the zip lines too. I liked their zip line circuit, not having to worry about braking myself was great, plus they had a "monkey walk" (TALL tree trunks set into the ground where you have to walk step by careful step on the ends, my heart was racing more on that than on the zips!) and some other surprises. :)

I would suggest the Entertainment Plus XPLORE tour but would recommend ALSO taking a day trip to Isla Mujeres, which you could do on your own. Post something back here or send me a PM if interested and I will provide more details.

Short version is you hop a bus in front of your hotel and go straight to the boats that leave and return every 30 minutes. Once there you can rent mopeds or a 4 person golf cart and tool around the island. North Beach is beautiful and you can hang out there and either buy cheap beers at a convenience store or at a cool bar on the beach called Buho's. The C store is not too close to Buho's so it is either or. You can eat while out on the golf cart at one of two great places on the beach and have this regional girlled on a wood fire whle fish called Tik n Chic. Shopping for souvenirs is less expensive than in Cancun's hotel zone. The boat ride is about 20 minutes each way and you can sit inside in an air conditioned cabin or outside on the top deck. Provided you are in line early enough to not be the last ones to board.

This is a fun day and I do it several times a year, often staying overnight.

If you are going to lay out on the beach most days, make one a slightly longer day and head to the Island of the Women.

yes I'm interested in the Xplore package, let me hear the cost and activities involved. I think we are definately going to check out Isla Mujeres, is that just something we would decide to do one day and just go do it or do we have to book a guide and all that? We would like to get over there of course by boat I'm assuming (the catamaran where it's open bar sounds fun) then just rent a golf cart explore the island and not have to worry about a guide), catch a boat ride back of course. If you can let me know the best way to do a Isla Mujeres trip like that (I think I saw one for $55 on some site). Thanks
