I am coming down to Cancun on Sunday with a group of people and we need your help! Our friends and family are freaking out thinking that Cancun is riddled with all the drug violence in the news. It is my understanding that this activity is more concentrated toward the Mex/US border. PLEASE give me some feedback so I can get them to calm down! Thanks!
Personal safety You can probably relax about this. I'm out and about the city from early AM to late PM, daily, taking cabs and buses. I work in two different places, both government institutions intentionally built in bad neighborhoods as part of a program to improve them. In one year, I've never had an incident of any kind, nor been approached by anyone in a way I've considered threatening. I rate the personal safety, here, as equal to that of a medium sized, U.S. city (no better, no worse). The Hotel Zone is probably safer than most cities in the U.S.
The Truth About Mexico Read the Reality Check article. Look at the map. Check out the blogs. Tell them you've grown up .
Exactly! We are a group of 8 in our early 30's, all well educated- I'm a freaking lawyer, for pete's sake! It's not like we are a bunch of 18 year old college students who may be more likely to make poor decisions. I think we are wise enough to know where we should and shouldn't go, and to go TOGETHER! Thanks for the input!
Change of family and friends would help. But tough to do. You will be just fine. Enjoy the vacation with the group you are traveling with and send back pictures to friends and family of the good times you are having with the comments-wish you were here having fun too.
When you are here, do not tell anyone you are a lawyer, let alone a freaking lawyer. That will only work against you.
