We need to get some money to Canada. (not a lot, around 8K)

We used to use Monex, but they told us they are out of the business of "personal" wire transfers.

The banks here are all stuck with that 15,000 peso cash deposit rule, so it is difficult to send anything over that.

Is there another way? Another Monex?

    Thanks Rob

Have you tried Western Union . I know alot of guys here in the states use them to send money south.

Rob, you could just fly it up yourself, or with someone you trust, if nothing else becomes available. If I read the forms right, you don't even have to declare the money if it's under $10,000 U.S equivalent, making it the most private way to move it north.

I needed to move some cash last summer and ran into the same problem. Monex wouldn't do it, Western Union wouldn't do it and my bank also refused the cash deposit. You can carry 8K without declaring it, but the airfare imposes a heavy premium, and the odds that a beagle will sniff you out for an explanation are in your favor.

That image of a dog "sniffing you out" is hilarious, Mixz1.

All I can say is that I've never had it happen to me, nor to any of my friends who needed to carry larger sums, and the dogs seemed to be checking bags only, when I've seen them working.

I was carrying larger sums of money, coming and going, on my last trip to the U.S. Perhaps we've just been lucky not to be bothered, in this way.

Yep, the dogs are cute, but if you arrive in NYC from Mexico they are going to be on the exit ramp as you leave the plane. Sometimes they're "food dogs" or at least that's what they tell you, but I have a feeling they're really money dogs. I think they use them here in Cancun as well. And I've also seen them at work in Miami.

This money is all above board, we need to pay for books we buy using our Canadian credit cards etc.

How did you end up doing it Mixz1? did you fly?

I didn't realize the 15,000 peso rule applied to everyone. I thought it was just businesses.

I flew it in to Tampa, visited friends, came home the next day.
