So was this Earth Hour a crock of crap, or was it only happening in the HZ? I was prepared at 8:30 for some peace, quiet and lights out, and it's 9:03 and nothing happened. So I am sitting here in the dark with my charged computer, respecting this event.
I think it is more a media event and a symbolic action--neither of which would affect life in much of downtown Cancun or really anything that Pedro PĂ©rez would be interested in or even know about. Besides noticing that if you hang around long enough tie styles come back into fashion every once in a while and trash collection procedures in Cancun seem to repeat, we old people will also remember and remind that ever since Sacred Heart grade school in the 50's they have had programs concerning energy saving on periodic bases--usually when oil prices rise. All such programs need to be repeated every so often as it is something that needs to be repeated but also needs to be remembered and reminded. The fact that they need to be repeated most probably means that they are not effective.
We were at Temptation for this event! They made a very big deal of it. We had a great dinner on the beach with white linen and great food! there were candles in white bags lining the walk ways and nice people with flashlights if you needed help! I had no idea about this national event before last night. It was beautiful! I'm glad I got to spend it in Cancun!
Yeah, I saw the pictures from where my BF works and it was sooo beautiful. They did shell candles on the beach..and they were all in white. I should have gone into the HZ and snuck into a hotel
It took place all over this planet in major cities and smaller towns in just about every country. So not this is not something in the HZ only.
I understand that, but I am here in Cancun, and was told by LOTS of people about the lights going out. SO, I thought it was happening in all of Cancun, not just the HZ. Hence posting in the living in forum. Not trying to be cheeky or nasty, but I am very "Green" and wanted this to be a community awareness event, not a publicity thing for the tourist. Oh Well!!!
