I have AT&T and the guy told me they dont have an international plan for Mexico and my best bet would be to turn my phone off for my trip. I have a blackberry too but I would have to pay some ridiculous amount for every letter in the bbm or email but incoming text are free and outgoing text are .50 to $1.

I don't think the person you talked to knows what he is talking about. Call back and find another person. Customer service people are not all created equally. Some are totally incompetent. Number 1 rule of dealing with customer service, if the person you talk to can't get you what you want, hang up and call again.

I know, I've already spoken to 2 different people and that was the best answer of the 2. Hopefully call number 3 will get me better answers!

I used my Rogers (Canadian version of AT&T) and my phone worked perfect. I did call my Rogers guy and paid for what they called an Caribbean package for data and SMS (sold separately). Probably $50.00 total for middle of the road packages.........

the telcel is totally worth it, they look crappy and actually are, but for cancun they are great, you wont pay more than 40 USD for a nokia that looks old but works perfectly, and you will get around 100 pesos in credit for calls and texts...
