I think we'll likely follow this advice, but my question is where is the closest ATM? Is there one on-site? We don't have plans to leave the resort, so do we need to deal with getting MXPs at the airport?

We're going to order up about $100 Canadian in pesos to start and then use the ATM in Mexico as suggested. At least that's the plan thus far!

The one in the gift shop dispenses US dollars and is a major rip-off. $240 US cost me over $275 out of my bank account. Stay far away from that one.

I didn't know there was one in the hotel gift shop. I've used one at the convenience store just outside of TTR. It's been a long time, but I don't remember anything other than a few dollar transaction fee.

There is another ATM that is by the convenience store - turn left out of the lobby and it's at the end of the parking lot. It's only 2 mins walk.

The problem with the ATM inside the hotel is it's a private one (as I recall) so adds on extra charges. The one by the convenience store is owned by the bank, I'm pretty sure this one dispenses both USD and Pesos.

I have used the one by the convenience store before, and it was fine. Getting $US seemed like a good idea at the time. Live and learn!!!

Thats another thing I was wondering where the ATM was. For any other Canadian's wondering we went to the bank today and ended up with USD. Seems to be the best no frills way of doing things. Also my bank said if we were needing to use an ATM to get some pesos that using my Visa would end up being cheaper than using my debit card. This was though CIBC....go figure
