Tip often and tip well, one us$ per drink is an O.K. tip. Or give the bartender a ten or even a twenty at the beginning or end of your drinking day. better off at beginning so that you dont forget. The better the tip the better the service. Remember these people in the service industry rely on tipping to make ends meet. That goes for resorts as well as at home at your local places.

Tipping is a big thing in Canada and US, Europeans do not tip.... people get paid a good wage here, with the miniimum wage be equivilent to $8 an hour just for working in KFC or McDonalds. So we're not used to tipping with meals/drinks at all.

In Cancun, i have always given $10 to a certain barman at the start of the night and asked him to remember my face, from then on he will treat you like royalty, handing drinks to you over a queue of 5 deep. If you then tip him again at the end of the night, he will remember you next time too.... I know for us europeans it's strange to part with your money this way, but it's a golden rule in Cancun, and well worth it.

I am a bartender in the United States, and from personal experience...

We make very little on wages, and I am sure that is even more prevalent in Mexico. There are two strategies: Tip $1 per drink (or if getting several drinks at a time, $2 at least) and if you do this consistently they will be happy and continue making you a priority. After all, we are making money every time you come up, so we want you at the bar ferquently! Option 2: Tip a signifigant amount, maybe $5 per person or $10 or $20 total if there is a group of you consistently going up together, and we feel instantly thankful and obligated to give you great and quick service. Also, if I know I am getting my tip up front, I am not reliant on you coming back so often, so I tend to make drinks much stronger for those people! Either way, do not be stingy with the bartenders. They will not want to serve you, make your drinks weaker, and it's not fair to them who work oh so hard!!!:bunny:

never wait on a drink and always stronger

It's really so true. Those people who say they didn't tip all week and the service was fine, have no idea what kinda service they are missing out on if they had tipped...
