I was reading a post but I can't remember which one it is, but someone said there is an ATM in cancun that Bank Of America won't charge you to use. Does anyone know the name of it? Also, are there open container laws, or can I walk around with a drink as long as I'm not stumbling drunk?

i called Bank of America recently and they said to call them a week or a few days before you go, if you're planning on using your ATM card. they told me to do that so that they know you'll be using your ATM card and there's no suspicion of fraud or whatever. use this number: 877 833 5617 option 1

also, their partner bank is Santander, according to the person i spoke with. i was told that they'll only charge you 1% of what you take out. to give you an idea, they said if you use other banks, they'll charge you the 1% PLUS $5 each time you use it. also, if your PIN is longer than 4 digits, change it to a 4 digit PIN. otherwise, they said you could have problems getting money out at the ATMs in mexico.

That's correct. There is a Santander's atm at the airport right after the glass door after customs. There is also a Santander's atm across the street from the north east corner of Kukulcan Plaza (the small mall with very high end stores). That's the only one I've seen in Hotel Zone. There are a lot more in downtown.

Well when i was down there last year i walked around with a drink in my hand along with alot of others. Now i do not know for sure if there is actually a law. But with the thousands and thousands of people down there that will be the least of the police worries!

I don't think all places will take debit/credit card. You will get charge a 2-3% foreign transactions fee by your card company too.

Call your bank. Mine doesn't charge me any withdraw fees or foreign transaction fees. They didn't when I would vacation here, and now that I live here, I would certainly see it if they did.

We use Chase bank. I just got off the phone informing them of the dates we will be there. They said to use the card there they will add $3 to all ATM transactions and then on top of every transaction including ATM use it will be another 3% on top of that. So i guess it just depends on what bank you use. Might want to call yours to be sure and get updated info.

WOW!!! I LOVE being with a Credit Union. They even give me withdraw reimbursement up to $4 a month if the ATM I use charges me.
