I am flying out next weekend and I was looking at the weather for next weekend and noticed some precip, snow/rain. It is far out and really cannot go by that forecast yet, but I was curious on what happens when they cancel your flight. I have a charter flight so what will happen if they cancel the flight? Will they take you later that day/night or the next day? can you get on another flight thorough another airline? I know this charter only flies to Cancun on certain days, so I am afraid that if it is cancelled, I will have to cancel the whole trip.

I really do not want to cancel this trip and I also do not want to lose anytime either, I still want to go the amount of days I paid for. We have been so looking forward to this and I always get a little worried around this time of year flying out for this reason. Does anyone have any knowledge of these things when you book a charter flight and vacation together. Thanks

The answer to your question depends on a lot of different factors.

First, are you outbound or home bound. If you are home bound, well the airplane is where you are so it has to go back sometime and it makes sense to put you on it. If it's out bound, they may be having to pick up people from where it is headed so they have to go get them sometime too.

But unless you're in a blizzard that shuts down the airport for days you are usually only talking delays of a few hours. In that case being on a charter is sometimes better than a scheduled airlines. With a scheduled airlines if they delay the flight for more than a few hours they usually cancel it figuring that they will rebook the passengers on another scheduled flight. You could be stuck for a few days until enough empty seats show up.

On a charter, if that flight doesn't go, they make no money so they want to fly it. And as I said before, they have people on the other end that need to come back. So for every cancelled flight they lose two plane loads. So they fly come hell or high water as soon as they can.

Bottom line is don't worry about the flight. It will happen sooner rather than later since you are on a charter. Worry about getting sunburned instead. :)

over here in bonny scotland we had a few weeks of minus 10-19c loads of snow and it was a case of flying when the runway was cleared of snow.
as jaimie says there are people at the other end that need to be brought home or vice versa the worst case scenario is maybe a night put up in an airport hotel till the flight can take off the only flights that are normally cancelled are daily flights as they fly regular anyway and they just put you on the first available flight. package holidays though have no option its a case of going as soon as they are allowed permision by air traffic control.
    so relax and stop worrying.

This is outbound. The good news is that the forecast changed and it is supposed to be sunny and mid 40's next weekend :clappyinghappy:
I originally booked this vacay for tomorrow the 31st and we are getting slammed right now by heavy snow and it is supposed to go through the night, I am so happy I don't have to drive to the airport in this mess tonight.

This does explains allot thank you, I kind of never figured about the returning passengers. Charter flights could tend to lose allot by canceling.

Well it is looking like we are now going to get slammed with a snow storm on this weekend, it may be feet of snow, I just cancelled my flight :( Now on the flip side, I insured the trip and I was refunded everything. I spoke with a educated agent on the phone and he really helped me. We rebooked for Tuesday at a different resort that was on special and I am now getting an extra day :aktion033: We just really just counld not afford any delays for our out going flight since we were losing a day because of an early flight home on our last day, I was not happy about getting up at 5am and leaving our last day. Now we have a flight leaving later in the evening. I am kind of relived, I have been watching this weather for over a week, but now it looks like there is still some weather for Tues, but I don't think it is going to be anything like they are calling for this Saturday. Now I just have to wait two more days :(

I am actually a dude LOL!! Is my screen name a littel effeminate lol!! Yeah we are down in the Cape. We just got about 10" or "11 inches on Sat and they are saying maybe "Feet" this weekend. I just cancelled my flight, I just do not feel like dealing with it. I usually stay at the airport the night before and I just do not feel like driving to PA in a foot of snow and ice the night before. I rebooked and gained a day and saved hundreds, the weather is looking ok for next week. I am not in a hurry.

Oh man, I'm in the same boat!!! It is snowing like crazy right now, we're supposed to get up to 18" in Hartford, CT. I just hope we get all the snowstorms over with in February so I don't have delayed flights or anything when I leave early March. Although if I miss a big storm while down there... that wouldn't be so bad! ;)

I cannot remember the last time I had shoes or long pants on.

    Enjoy your getaway.
