sounds good. again, thanks to both of you.

definitely not planning on bringing anything too valuable, just in case, and i will definitely be using the safe in the room as well as locking up my suitcase.

here's another question.. what is the most typical arrival day? we're arriving on a Friday and i was curious if we'd be partying with that week's spring breakers for a night or 2 before the next week's crowd starts to arrive, or if Friday is when people tend to get there.

also, i'm fluent in spanish and was hoping that if i slip the guy a few bucks, that they might be able to hook us up with a room request. is it better to stay in either phase, or is there a certain part of the hotel that's considered best to be at (not including Grand, obviously)?

well in my understanding, you got people showing up everyday and people usually leaving sunday... but in cancun everyday is like a weekend!!!

Now about slipping him some xtra money i have no idea if that will work

As with anywhere in the world, people are ALWAYS persuaded by the almighty dollar. It's no different in Cancun. Everyone is looking to make an extra buck, so haggling is never a problem. Getting people into your hotel though may be a bit tougher, and put a nice hole in your wallet, but hey, if it's worth it, it's worth it :icon_wink:

what they did for us in 2004 is hold our luggage and we hung out by the pool with our first drink ;) only problem is that they double/triple booked so we were waiting by the pool.... n in the huts from 9am til 4pm... just to be moved to the Golden Parnassus.... but its ok.... because now the GP is my loverrrr.

    just my one friend. you?

    where in NJ are you?

it's our first time doing cancun and we already booked it, but we'll see about future trips. we figured it couldn't hurt to do a more typical trip the first time, and then figure out what we do and don't like when/if we decide to go back.

agreed! do you typically bring pesos with you? i've read about bringing only small denominations ($1, $5, $20), but i'm thinking it can't hurt to bring some pesos with me as well.

also, do a lot of you check luggage, or do you try to get by without checking bags? i didn't know if it would be a hassle or not, and i didn't want to get caught up in the airport too long. it'd be nice not to worry about underpacking though.

i always bring small bills for tipping. usually 100 bucks in 1s and 100 in 5s covers me for the week as for as tips go. tipping honestly gets u very far down there. ive always checked a bag, it only lengthens the trip when ur waiting for it to come down the conveyer belt. ill convert a very small amount of money into pesos for bus rides and smal things, some people like to convert more, thats all up to you
