The people in my new neighborhood for the most part care, and help to keep the park and area around our homes, clean. The city does its part, too, with garbage pickup five times a week, and a park grooming, now and then. The problem here is cats.

A "cat lover", who kept around six inside- and fed others that came around- moved out and didn't take her charges with her. They are now hungry, and break into the garbage: the wind does the rest.

Who do we contact to have these guys rounded up?

V: Where are you guys more specifically? Might know about the problem and might have a solution other than the local pound, which would mean electrocution for these cats :(

You mentioned that you are possibly quite close to me(Im just across Bonampak from Plaza Nayandei)

Our park doesnt have a problem with cats(rather humans doing their toilet needs everywhere instead...:icon_evil:), but I know we have 2 neighboring parks - could be one of them...

Thanks, Rawkus, I live in SM20, which I think is very near you. By the way, one of the cats was belly up in a very suspicious way, this AM, making me think some of the neighbors may have begun taking matters into their own hands (it's been at least two months since the lady moved, leaving the cats behind, so people have been tolerant for quite a while).

If any of you have a preferred way to get rid of them, fine, if it works, and reasonably quickly. These cats are awfully cute, but they need to be cute somewhere else. The ones in question are juveniles, just beginning to come into sexual maturity- the cries of the males are hilarious- sound like a kid trying to appear tough, just a little "squeaky" when they "roar"!

Not very familiar with the various SM`s(we are in SM4, not that it makes me any wiser, ha ha.)... Landmark?

I hope they are careful IF they start to poison the cats. Last time someone put poison in our park, 3 kids had to spend some 2 months in hospital, plus the idiot who was caught(thank goodness!!) had to reimburse 3 dog owners whose dogs died...

    So yes, its illegal.

Ill see what I can do. Im not promising anything though...

I just really wish them a different way to go than water-electrocution :(

Can you tell roughly how many you have seen around? 1-20, 20-40?

If you dont hear from me by tomorrow morning, then I guess you should call the Municipal.

I found the Perrera Municipal(I know its the dogpound, but I cant find any specific regarding cats.) Maybe give them a call? At least they should know who else to call if they dont handle cats...

    Perrera Municipal: 998 8 92 33 26 (Its the only number I could find...)

SM4 is across the street from us, on Tulum. You can't get any closer, without being in the same SM, but we don't share any parks with you.

The dog pound has cats as well. My vet actually works at the pound during the day and then has office hours in his home in the evening. I recently had some kittens that were in need of homes. The vet told me that they could take them at the vet BUT if they weren't adopted quickly, they'd be put to sleep. So, that's obviously not the ideal option.

V and Rawkus, I will PM both of you with the name of a vet that might be able to help you out. He's on Isla Mujeres though.

Rivergirl is really the local authority on stray animals (especially kitties) so, hopefully, she will chime in soon.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions, everybody. Rawkus, there seem to be five of them left, as of yesterday, afternoon. Aside from these cats, there are no other animals roaming our neighborhood.

Epic: This was in 2007 if Im not mistaken. The "guy" also laid out poison in surrounding areas. Havent heard what happened to him since, but rumors say that he was released shortly after the incident.

Ha ha, the potholes - our own monuments of Cielo...

They come and put gravel(!!) in them from time to time... Laughable :)

V: So theres "only" 5 of them? That doesnt sound too bad, considering I was expecting some 20-ish at least. (Or maybe its 5 left after your "lovely" neighbors have killed the rest..?)

Havent got a definite answer from my vet, but Ill call her again as soon as she opens up shop this morning.

Susan gave me heaps of numbers and contacts - we should DEF have a go at these! I myself gave a kitten to Dr Guevara on Isla Mjueres.

I found the little bugger inside a plastic bag along with 2 of his sisters... The girls were dead, but we could save the boy. They were approx 2 weeks old and someone had tied the bag and thrown them inside a schoolyard just behind Yaxillan(spelling?), next to a crappy hostel named Hostel Cancun.

I lack words for "people" who do these kind of things :angrymad:
