I am reading that some of the beaches are gone... I will be arriving on 2/13/10 with my family.... I was going to stay in Cancun..... Since I am with my family (kids age 9-14) and I am not going to party... Is there somewhere better suited for us to stay? Would I be better off in Cozumel or an area near Cancun?

The beaches are not gone. Actually they are being refurbished as we speak. Depending on where you stay you may have a huge beach in front of the property.

Thanks for the advice guys... I just spoke to the wife and she wants to stay in Cancun. She does not care about having beach access at our hotel.... Any suggestions? I think we want to stay on the south end near the Hyatt Regency.... We stayed there before and remember it being a good location close to shops and resturants.... Thanks again.

The south end of Cancun still has nice beaches. Sun Palace is a little pricey but a great resort!!. Now I stayed at Beach Palace last year and it had a very small beach, but the funny thing was there was nobody on the beach anyway, I looked down the coastline and there were really no people on the beach at all. Most people opt to sit up on the balcony facing the ocean. I cannot speak for everyone, but there is so much to do and so little time that you most likely will not be spending much time on the beach anyway. I spend most of the day by the pool and then go down to the beach and play in the ocean for a bit and then head back to the pool bar :ernaehrung005:.

A couple of places I like are The Royal, Cancun, Sun and Beach Palace and Le Blanc. I would suggest the Cancun Palace or the Royal. I love both these resorts.

This is exactly what my wife said and I had to agree.... So we are looking for a nice resort, with clean rooms and comfortable beds. It would be nice to be within walking distance of a few resteraunts and shops.... Any thoughts?

I will take a look at your suggestions right now... Thank You

If you are staying in Cancun I would not really worry about location that much, you can catch a public bus, they go by the hotel every 5-7 minutes and will take you up or downtown, the fare is like 60 pesos and the buses are fun to ride on.

Now another option is Playa Del Carmen. Nice beaches, shopping and lots of restaurants, Playa is also the port for the ferry to Cozumel. Playa is safe and there are allot of hotels that are nice right in town. I am staying for the first time in Playa myself, I have been there a million times, but have never stayed. I have stayed north of Playa in Puerto Morels but really did not care for it, a little far from the action and just did not like the place. I myself think the beaches and water is nicer in Cancun, but the beaches in playa are still very nice.

A couple of place I researched in Playa Del Carmen are the Royal, it has great reviews and it is right in downtown Playa. There is also Sandos, Riu Palace and the Riu Yucatan. A little bit north of Playa Del Carmen is Blue Bay and Secrets, you will need a cab with them to go into the town. There are also a couple of others that I have been wanting to stay at and they are the Xpu Ha, Aventure spa and Eldorado Moroma. My next trip I am booking the Xpu, it is further down towards Akumal, but it sounds like a great resort.

Thank you for the info.... A friend of mine told me to stay at Playa Del Carmen... He told me to stay at the Royal Hacienda.... Is that a good hotel?

I am thinking about staying 4 days in Cancun and 3 days at Playa Del Carmen....

I would stay in Playacar, which is a mile south of Playa Del Carmen....it is Playa Del Carmen really. Stay at one of the 5 Riu properties, or the Sandos beach resort. We've stayed at those, and they were great for families. The Riu Tequilla, Riu Playacar, etc.......
