I just booked my Honeymoon for mid-August at the Aventura Spa Palace. I have been to Cancun 3 times before, but never during the hurricane season so I never really gave it an consideration.

I have been looking at travel insurance, but I am more confused than when I started as to what I need. There are so many different plans that cover so many different things, and I can't get a clear answer as to if they cover Hurricanes. My main concern is that if there is a Hurricane approaching during our trip, that we will get our money back. Can someone recommend me a specific plan that will cover such an event? Thanks!

Did you book online or through a travel agent? Either way there is a form when you are booking that offers the insurance. It is usually $50-$100 per person depending on cost and where you are going of course. I know that if you book your trip with a charter flight, the insurance usually covers the flight and vactation, if you are on a commercial airline it may be an extra charge through the airline. I have always added the insurance on all my trips. I do know that I paid additional money to get a 100% cash refund on our upcoming trip, is was $100 per person.

BTW I heard the Aventure is very nice, it was on my short list two years ago, I would like to book that resort next fall.

Thanks for some good information. I booked on Orbitz, but didn't get the insurance that they offer because I wasn't sure if it covered Hurricanes and I wanted to look for the best price online.
Does anyone else have any suggestions on what kind of insurance they have gotten for their trip?
I'll be sure to post my review of the Spa Palace once I return.

A hurricane is bad, but rare. Wilma totaled my car in 2005. My concern with the trip insurance would be the getting the exact coverage at a fair price. I have NEVER purchased trip insurance and probaly never will.

If I were you, which I don't think I am, my only real life concern would be the rain that is more prevalent during hurricane season. If a tropical storm is in the area there will be rain but that is a chance you take almost anywhere.

If there is a hurricane that is going to be dangerous, the airlines will cancel flights and you should not be at risk there as you will get your money back from almost every carrier. If you had made hotel reservations they could be cancelled but sometimes there is a penalty that increases the closer you get to check in date. The hotel can give you their policy. Not sure how Orbitz handles such a thing.

Bottom line - If you are booked and excited, don't worry about it. Based on Turquoise water's cost estimate, you would be "gambling" $100-$200 on a long shot.

Good luck with your decision and with your wedding, honeymoon and more.
